Located in Air Itam, Kek Lok Si is one of the most famous temple in Penang. One of the Penang friend told me that the best time to visit Kek Lok Si is during the Chinese New Year (CNY), when lanterns and multi-coloured LED lights lit up. Glad that we managed to join this annual event on the second day of CNY to witness the beautiful and colourful decorative lights scene.
For your information, Kek Lok Si will be opened to the public starting from CNY eve until the last day of CNY (February 24, 2014), from 8.30am till midnight. Be there early as it is a popular attraction in Penang during CNY, hence it is quite crowded and parking slot is quite limited. To grant access into the section where Grand Hall of temple and Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas located, you will have to pay RM 2 and the fare will be contributed to the temple maintenance and development fund. Here is where you can witness the spectacle scene of Penang, thousand red and yellow lanterns, as well as beautiful garden at the base of Pagoda planted with various flowering plants.
